Primary contaminant concern is of a chemical nature

Q -- How to address chemical contaminant reduction:
  1. I want to treat all the water that enters my house by a Point Of Entry (POE) system
  2. I want to treat water at certain points inside my house by Point Of Use (POU) systems

1. From the Q above -- Point Of Entry (POE) systems

Whole house water filtration:

  1. There are four or fewer people in my household (children old enough to shower by themselves count as "whole" people)
  2. There are between 5 and 8 people in my household
  3. There would be more than 8 people served (institutional, commercial or industrial application)

POE whole house filters for up to 4 people served

  1. Our water is heavily contaminated by sediment, sand, grit or scale. We have to remove the little aerator screen from the kitchen sink faucet at least once per month to clean off grit, sand, etc.
  2. Not as described above.

POU -- I want a water filter specifically for my:

  1. kitchen sink -- for drawing drinking/cooking water
  2. shower -- to remove chlorine
  3. refrigerator water dispenser, ice-maker or other low-flow appliance

POU -- At my kitchen sink I would like a:

  1. counter-top system -- does not require plumbing -- can be considered somewhat "portable." Good for renters, students and others who do not own the property or may be moving along someday soon and would want to take their water treatment system with them. Easy, "no-tools" install and uninstall.
  2. under-the-counter system -- simple plumbing installation. Out of the way under the sink cabinet so it doesn't clutter up the sink counter-top. Usually larger than counter-top units, meaning they last longer before needing replaced. Includes connector "saddle valve," water feed lines and chromed goose-neck faucet hardware for dispensing drinking water separate from raw tap water. Minor plumbing job -- most experienced homeowners or a general handyman can handle the install.
